SUMMARY OF ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SOME TYPES OF VACUUM PUMPS

Any technological product comes with its advantages and disadvantages, and vacuum pumps are no exception. Although this tool has many outstanding features and applications, it is not without its drawbacks that need to be addressed. Currently, there are many different types of vacuum pumps on the market, with various operating methods. In this article, Cường Thịnh Company would like to introduce two groups of products with different advantages and disadvantages.

Types of Vacuum Pumps

Rocker Vacuum Pump

In various industries, the chemical industry tends to use vacuum pumps the most. These pumps are classified into groups based on their simple displacement volume, such as variable vacuum pumps and jet vacuum pumps.

  • Variable Vacuum Pumps work by periodically changing between pumping and discharge. These include reciprocating vacuum pumps, rotary vane vacuum pumps, water ring vacuum pumps, and roots vacuum pumps.

  • Jet Vacuum Pumps, also known as jet pumps, operate by using the Venturi effect to reduce the pressure of high-speed jet flows. This includes jet motion pumps, water jet vacuum pumps, steam jet vacuum pumps, and jet vacuum pumps.

Variable Vacuum Pumps – Advantages and Disadvantages

Oil-Free Rocker Vacuum Pump

  • Reciprocating Vacuum Pump, Rotary Vane Vacuum Pump, Roots Vacuum Pump: These types of pumps operate based on pistons that move back and forth or rotate to suck in and compress air. The compressed air is directed into the vacuum pump at relatively high pressure, but the piston will move through the components.

However, due to this design, the piston wear cannot be avoided, and maintenance time may increase while the vacuum pressure continues to drop. This can lead to the pump being unable to meet production demands. Furthermore, variable vacuum pumps operate with high noise levels and consume a significant amount of fuel, which not only increases equipment investment and operational costs but also has a high failure rate and can pose safety risks.

Additionally, these pumps may not be able to condense gases, making them suitable only for non-condensable air suction and unsuitable for particle-laden environments. This means their range of applications is limited.

Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps

This type of vacuum pump is installed within a casing with an eccentric rotation. Water is then introduced into the pump casing, rotating concentrically in a water cycle, where the blade causes volume changes to suck in and compress air. The main advantage of this pump is its large-volume pumping capacity, able to directly suck in vapor without condensing gases.

However, the biggest disadvantage is the low vacuum level, meaning it cannot be used with many types of machinery or in environments that are not compatible. The high rotational speed inevitably leads to wear and tear on the machinery, which needs to be addressed.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Jet Vacuum Pumps

Jet Vacuum Pump

Jet vacuum pumps work by using the Venturi effect created by reducing the pressure of high-speed jet airflow to expel a moving pump. These pumps are divided into three types based on criteria: water jet vacuum pumps, steam jet vacuum pumps, and combinations of basic vacuum pumps. This equipment operates within the vacuum range, capable of directly sucking vapor and non-condensable gases, with medium particle sizes, and has a simple structure.

The advantages of jet vacuum pumps include ease of operation, no moving parts, minimal maintenance, energy efficiency, and cost reduction. Therefore, they are increasingly used in the chemical industry for specific processes.
